I headed to my local fabric store – Mood Fabrics at the Garment District and looked for fabrics that would fit the mood board for my collection called “Timeless Romance”. The store associates cut a swatch of the fabrics that I requested for. I found the fabric content label and made a note of the content (such as silk or polyester), the width, the price per yard, availability, name of the fabric.
I created a fabric card using a piece of stiff watercolor paint paper and attached the swatches and the business card, and recorded the quantity, style, and content information for each swatch. The goal of this visit was to touch and handle the fabric, and to talk with the fabric store staff and have a better understanding of how a day in fashion production would look like.
Visiting mood fabrics revealed how time-sensitive sourcing can be and how fabric choice directly impacts cost, availability, and design feasibility. My collection concept is “Timeless Romance”. The selected fabrics were chosen to express elegance and opulence through soft drapes, luminous finishes and romantic textures.

The fabrics above are not a part of the fabric board for my collection but I will definitely use them in future when I will design an outfit for myself!
